Hey. Found this forum via urbanphilosophy, but recognise quite a few CARMites here, including HRG who I've been stalking for years ! Thanks to TBS for setting it up. I'm a Brit working in computer science, specialising in formal mathematics, so any discussions about logic and TAG and I'm there! I've always been an atheist, but my enlightenment rationalist views have cooled after dabbling in and out of philosophy over the last few years, leaving me leaning dangerously into postmodernist territory.

I thought you were Dutch? Where did I get that from? Perhaps it's all the pot I smoke* I'm an American. I am even in the military; I am a nuclear technician in the US Navy. *I don't really do drugs.

Hi Vazscep! I've enjoyed a lot of your posts at CARM but never picked up that you had postmodernist leanings! I don't know a great deal about postmodernism myself but every since reading Sokal's book have not been particularly inclined to learn more about it. Did I miss something?

If you hadn't noticed, then maybe I'm okay. On CARM, I think I held my leanings quite close to my chest, with the odd comment of "don't take this stuff too seriously" and "ever read Richard Rorty?" I haven't read anything by Derrida or Foucault, and maybe never will. And it wouldn't surprise me if I'd have a lot of disdain for what gets published in social science nowadays.

I'd have to answer "no" to your question about Rorty. Here's hoping you start a meaty and contentious thread about postmodernism, Rorty style, although scanning his Wikipedia entry it does not seem he was one of the lunatic fringe.
