I got in with no trouble at all with that link. This really makes me wonder now. A note to ADSL users: usually if you unplug your ADSL for more than 10 minutes or so your IP will end up being re-assigned, in which case the IP block becomes ineffective. Too bad for the fellow who ends up with your old IP, though! I use DSL. is that the same thing?

ADSL is just DSL with an 'A' in front, which is a bit redundant because every consumer DSL service is actually ADSL (the 'A' for asymmetric means you can receive data faster than you can sent it).

Just reset it. You don't even have to unplug it on a few kinds. Turn it off for a while and start it back up.

Hey drpepper! Welcome to the bolt-hole! I've lost count of the number of times I've been banned; and oddly enough, often for the remarks I thought were within the rules. One thing I've noticed though: criticize Matt or Dianne, and one of the mods comes trolling along scanning all your posts and they'll find something. Something else I've noticed is that on occasion all of a sudden I can't access CARM, even though I haven't been banned. But if I come in on a different IP, I can. So this does suggest they track IP's and they're not even honest about banning. If you really want to be untrackable you can come in via an anonymiser, e.g. will do the trick. But frankly I don't think it's worth it. I noticed that I kept on scaling back the discussion to the point of self-censorship and frankly that's not healthy. I don't think I'm going to lend them any more legitimacy. I got in with no trouble at all with that link. This really makes me wonder now. It worked yesterday but won't today. It acts like the Carm server is blocking it? Keep getting a time out.

so i just unplug it from my computer for ten minutes. or from the wall jack too? You need to unplug your router from the telephone line. The exact policy depends on your ISP, but usually if you DSL drops off the line for 10 minutes or more then your IP address will get re-assigned. When you re-connect, you will get a new IP address. If you know how you can connect to your router using a web browser and check what IP it has. Or, connect to a site like www.whatsmyip.org to check your IP before and after the operation. Incidentally, I just checked and I can now also connect without a problem. Hmm....
