Now as a side note I personally have no problem with the idea of disembodied consciousness. In fact I think there is good evidence to support it but I know most atheists won't agree. Okay, let's here it. What's the mechanism and the evidence for such a mechanism?

Well, if the phenomenon were to be real, it would depend on the existance of another medium besides the brain for instantuating the consciousness that could leave the body. We assign the word "ectoplasm" to this hypothetical medium. But we have no basis for understanding ectoplasm at all. Hence, we normally ignore the possibility of out of body experiences. It would appear to be more likely we could experience a disconnect from our sensory apparatus including the normal sensation of having the core of our consciousness right behind the eyes.
