I am wondering if there is anyone out there who can refute these objections. I am really serious about that. I would love it if they could. They say a little knowledge is dangerous so if someone has more please inform me...
The standard model of creation held as a tenet of faith in many of the world's religions including Christianity is basically as follows. Before anything else existed there was only God. This God dwelled in an eternity outside of time itself. This being was an eternally self aware being. At some point this being decided to create the universe. He created everything that exists (including time) from absolutely nothing.
My first objection is how can anything exist outside of time? How can one even logically speak of something "before" time (since before itself is a temporal adjective)?
If the creator was an eternally self aware being of what was it aware? How can something, anything, be aware of itself outside of time? Atemporal consciousness just does not compute to me.
And even if this is possible how could there be a "point in time" when such a creator consciously decided to create the universe? How can there be a point in time when there is no time???
And how can something be made out of nothing? Nothing as far as I can tell cannot even exist by definition. It is simply a concept that can only be applied in relation to "somethings".
Regarding many if not all of these points I think it is noteworthy to say the they cannot be traced to the bible itself. The bible begins with the act of creation and tells us nothing about what may or may not have occurred "before" it. Neither can I find anything in the bible that really supports creatio ex nihilo.
Now please don't suggest that I simply accept all this "on faith". That does not work for me. I am looking for a solid argument that can show how any of this can really be possible.
