Meh. Religious humor is like bad science fiction: the attention is so much on the idea that everything else comes out two-dimensional. I suppose if you are a hero-worshiper of Jesus then Lord Buckley might come out funny, but if not it's rather lame. If you want to see what I mean, see this link on atheists or believes - who's funnier? Maybe the selection for Team God was bad, but still, it's a bit of a walk-over.

Oh well--I tried. Perhaps this would be more to your liking... Hmm, better; it has a laid back theme, but the message is inconsistent. For instance, the lines: That's very nice; it seems to be saying "come on guys, stop staking out your turf and just get along". But preceding this verse are the lines: What I take from this is that yeah ok, there's these other religions cruising around, but Jesus is definitely in the "passing lane" - but be cool, cause he's the bona fide motorized savior, yeah. Sorry, it doesn't work that way. Mohammed and Buddha could write their own songs about being in the passing lane: they are in competition with one another. If you are going to claim your savior is the bona fide savior, then you are staking out turf, and "just being friends" is going to get tricky. To your "If Jesus rode a motor home" I raise you "Imagine". And no, the irony of "imagine no possessions" being sung by a mega-rich pop star from his country estate hasn't escaped me!

This is a really fascinating piece because it is so ambiguous, and even now, I still can't decide who's been punked: the scientific community by fooling them into believing it's actually pro-science; the makers of expelled by fooling them into thinking it was mocking scientists; or if it was just one big joke to mess with everybody's heads. Whichever, it is very, very clever.

It was probably just a catchy rhyme the songwriter latched onto.

I was thinking it was a catchy rhyme, too-might be the answer there. LOL at the last video-Dick Dawkins can hang with Eminem as a rapper, yo. When I saw this thread, I figured you'd have a clip from the "I Dream of Jesus" episode of Family Guy up, though. Or the "Red Sleigh Down" episode of South Park. Either one would give folks here a smile, I think. ;D (I've got to rent Expelled-I'm so far behind!)

(I've got to rent Expelled-I'm so far behind!) You mean "Expelled" as in Ben Stein "Expelled"? I finally got to watch the thing with keen anticipation and I only made it halfway through. It's not even funny entertaining, like "Plan 9 from Outer Space". It's just bad.
