If you could be dictator of say a nation like the U.S. would you outlaw religion? If yes, why? if no, why?
Or would you require the populace under your thumb to view you as "god"?
Just was a wonderin'

No. The whole notion of having a dictatorship in the first place is flawed. Every means of imposing law requires mechanisms to a) formulate good law and b) to correct mistakes. A dictatorship provides neither.

Dictatorships are flawed to begin with.
On top of that, outlawing religion doesn't help anyone. Sure, you may outlaw the more brutal aspects of some religions (e.g. honorkillings are wrong even though they are from a religion) but outlawing beliefs is just 1984.

I'd outlaw all religion except the one that worships me(that one would be mandatory, of course)

I would outlaw outlawing religions. But I would not necessarily outwlaw outlawing certain religious practices.

Just was a wonderin' Dave No. It adds much culture, many people find it helpful as a coping mechanism (even in lack of any scientific evidence of anything special about it), among many other benefits it provides. I would only make sure questioning of religious beliefs (along with every thing else) was encouraged.

I'd outlaw all religion except the one that worships me(that one would be mandatory, of course) LOL and hail ydoaPs Caesar! ;D Seriously, the Communist regimes have tried this approach. Most of them are kaput now. At best, it's a complete waste of time and resources. At worst-just a horrible thing to do. So, no, as Emperor, I will tolerate religions. Besides, the Rule of Two states that it's best to just have two members of the Sith Order at any one time....
