A couple of posters here have reported that they are no longer able to access CARM except via an anonymous proxy, even though they have not been banned. It is possible but not known for certain that CARM are blocking the IP addresses of posters appearing on this board as a kind of under-the-radar means of imposing a de facto ban without flagrantly violating their own rules.
So be warned!

I have not been able to get in since yesterday morning. As far as I get is the home page. But I did get some messages saying the server was overloaded. But I never had that problem before.
I did notice that the Atheism section has been renamed "SECULAR--Atheist Forums".

With the vagaries of the Internet one does have to be cautious about drawing conclusions, but I've been checking quite regularly now and I've no trouble at all accessing via an anonymous proxy, but from my regular IP it's just incredibly slow, so that half the time the browser just times out. So it's possible that users are just being throttled rather than being just cut off all together. |

It is not a good idea to use the same name here as on CARM. That is just asking for trouble. Looks like you have already got it.

You can even go back as a Christian and be converted to agnostic or even atheist. See if you get shut out of those other forums where you made friends.  |

Hm, I often had timeouts - I think the servers were just overloaded. Throttling a specific IP's bandwidth is a pretty weird thing to do, I don't think there's any conspiracy.

When it's happened to me I've done repeated tests over several minutes and the result is pretty consistent. Try to access from my usual IP, timeout. Try to access from the same connection via an anonymous proxy, no problem. Try to access from some other connection, no problem. Finally, I've never had this problem except shortly after getting up Matt or Di's nose. So I don't think it's simply a matter of server overload. But still, that's not definitive proof. |
