What do Christians make of this answer?

Nice video. I was interested by your remark that "I would have no trouble following a loving god", and it occurred to me that that would be true for me too. But, the problem is:
"the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God." (Ex 34:14)
A vain god indeed. And no, I don't think we are wrong, but if we were I would inclined to follow Lyra Belacqua's example and wage war on heaven rather than submit to such a malevolent being.

What do Christians make of this answer? Perfectly--and eminently--logical.

The best reply to this question I've heard.

The best reply to this question I've heard. I know, right? Anyone disagree with the vid?

I was mesmerized by this video. And not because he's hot, I swear. Very powerful but very painful to watch. There isn't anything in the video that I haven't thought of, although he has a brilliant way of conveying his thoughts, and I don't. I think he is right though, we are a product of our experiences and my experiences have led me to believe with very little doubt that there is a God. I feel like I've not been left with any choice but to believe. I really wish I could formulate words to do his video justice but it's just left me with a million thoughts swirling around my head. I guess, I don't agree with his conclusion, but I can't find any flaw in his logic and reasoning. And perhaps that will make me seem stupid.

Well said, yawehisreal and thanks. Hi, ydoaPs-thanks for the link to this site. This place should prove interesting. That fella makes some good points, but he needs to make some legit videos-not just webcam stuff. He should probably write a book, too. I wouldn't agree with all of it, but it'd be better than Letter to a Christian Nation, I think. Peace.

Not at all; but it does suggest that you have an emotional investment in a desired conclusion, which in turn should make you cautious about any reasoning you attempt to apply - see this thread.

If you want to see him in 'legit' stuff, watch One Life to Live, General Hospital, or Roswell.

I'm sorry-I'm not the best at putting my thoughts into actual words at times. And I didn't recognize the guy as an actor-thanks. What I meant was, he should get himself a set of some sort-a couple of nice chairs, perhaps a sidekick to bounce ideas off of. Everyone needs a sidekick, right? Something like you'd see on a talk show. He deserves better than just a webcam, IMHO. See what I mean, ydoaPs? Do you know what I am saying? ;D

Very well done. It was indeed a perfect answer as far as I'm concerned. It would be extremely interesting to see a fundamentalist apologist answer the question "What if I'm wrong?" in the most honest, self-reflective manner possible. (Leave aside for the moment the question of whether honesty and self-reflection tend to be qualities of fundamentalists .) What if God actually wanted you to be skeptical? What if God wanted you to be tolerant? What if God didn't want you to take yourself so seriously? What if God wanted you to care more about being good than about being right?

A mystic**, an evangelical pastor and a fundamentalist preacher die on the same day and awake to find themselves by the pearly gates. Upon reaching the gates they are promptly greeted by Peter, who informs them that before entering heaven they must be interviewed by Jesus concerning the state of their doctrine.
The first to be called forward is the mystic, who is quietly ushered into a room. Five hours later the mystic reappears with a smile, saying, 'I thought I had got it all wrong.'
Then Peter signals to the evangelical pastor, who stands up and enters the room. After a full day had passed the pastor reappears with a frown and says to himself, 'How could I have been so foolish!'
Finally Peter asks the fundamentalist to follow him. The fundamentalist picks up his well-worn Bible and walks into the room. A few days pass with no sign of the preacher, then finally the door swings open and Jesus himself appears, exclaiming, 'How could I have got it all so wrong!'
** It'd be really interesting to substitute "mystic" here with "atheist". ^_^
